Basics of Gas Regulators
The primary purpose of a regulator is to maintain a steady
pressure to a device or system when the flow and upstream
pressure to the regulator varies over time. For a regulator
to do this it must be properly sized for the application.
Too many people believe that this sizing is nothing more than
"Give me a 1-1/2" regulator!" Well, to be honest,
a 1-1/2" regulator could work for a commercial hot water
heater rated at 1 MMBTUH or serve a fire-tube boiler firing
15 MMBTUH.
